One thing that I am so passionate about is worship arts! In our congregations are people who have been given talents to paint, dance, sing, sculpt, design...the list could go on. I would bet several of those people have never used their talents in worship. By discovering the gifts that God has given members of the church community and beyond can lead to unbelievable worship experiences! Below are some great sites that can help you discover a whole new world of worship:
The Society for the Arts in Religious and Theological Studies: ARTS Magazine The Arts in Religious and Theological Studies (ARTS) is the journal of The Society for the Arts in Religious and Theological Studies published by the theology and arts program of United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Edited by Wilson Yates and Kimberly Vrudny, the journal treats broadly the intersections between theology and the arts. I highly reccomend this journal!!
Some of us have been called to the parish ministry and soon a weekly sermon will be required of us. Sometimes we will need some help and inspiration. Below are some links that can help both the deliverer and hearer: Provided by Lori Williamson: Text Week.com
Below are some links to artist that use various types of paint as their medium to share their gift/talents with the world: Provided by Clarence Elder: God's Paintbrush Provided by Lori Williamson: Leszek Forczek
I love various forms of media from glass to cake...I love to see what truly gifted artist can do with traditional and not so traditional medias! From Clarence Elder: Christian Bronze Sculptures by Eldona Hamel
Most of our churches contain artwork some where. I have started to take photos of Michigan Ave. Baptist Church in Saginaw, MI where my husband is senior pastor. Michigan Ave. has beautiful windows, wood carvings and more. So here are some photos. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do in worship. Please feel free to e-mail me your churches artwork and I will be happy to blog them. Click on the images to view them bigger.
Below are links to Art History Resources on the web. I hope to also add some good art history books as well. From Kelly: Art History Resources on The Web Christopher L. C. E. Witcombe, Professor of Art History at Sweet Briar College, Virginia has put together a very helpful resource that links web resources of Art in Late Antiquity (Early Christian and Byzantine) together in an outline format. Very helpful, check it out. Artchive Artnet (Specific results from: "Christ")
I am going to attempt to break these posts into categories so that they can be easily sort/highlighted on the side of the blog. I will go back and add to each category as time allows weekly.
Provided by Alan: He Qi Gallery Dr. HeQi "...ranks as arguably China's most internationally sought after contemporary Christian artist." His brilliant, colorful and highly contemporary paintings emerge unmistakably from ongoing Chinese contexts. - Far Eastern Economic Review
The best want to navigate the site is to use the “Blog Archive” to search by subject. Simply click on the subject and it will take you right to it, otherwise the blogs will be listed as they were entered (on the left). Have fun!
If your like me, you have a tool bar across your web browser that stretches from one end of the screen to the next, has forced you to go back (on multiple occasions) to categorize, organize and rename mis labeled links and is for all intensive purposes a mis guided mess that was suppose to help you find all those great little things you need when you are writing your sermons, planning your worship or in search of inspiration for that “visioning” session with your deacon board. This is my attempt to capture (hopefully in a more successful way) those little gems with out the risk of losing them the next time my web browser decides to have an issue losing all my precious links. So with the help of my friends in my “Art, Artist and Christology” classmates I hope to link up what they find, what I find and of course an area for comments where people are free to share what they think of the art, link, etc.
